PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a self-propelling type vacuum cleaner which efficiently clean fine dust in a room by performing the cleaning after floating dust has fallen on a floor surface, and can demonstrate the cleaning effect. SOLUTION: This self-propelling type vacuum cleaner has a vacuum cleaner main body, moving means 2 just like driving wheels which move the vacuum cleaner main body, a cleaning means 5 which is incorporated in the vacuum cleaner main body, and a controlling means 10 which controls the moving means 2 and the cleaning means 5. The lowering and the sinking of dust are judged from indirect information which can be related to the lowering and the sinking of dust from a sensing means 11 such as the amount of floating dust has decreased to a specified value or lower, and the mode is shifted to a cleaning mode in response to the judgement result. By the self-propelling type vacuum cleaner, the cleaning can efficiently be performed after fine dust has accumulated on the floor surface, and the efficiency and effects of the cleaning can be increased by avoiding the lowering and the sinking of much floating dust after the completion of the cleaning.
