PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for separating a gas mixture using a thermal driving type pump. SOLUTION: The method for separating the gas mixture comprises the thermal driving type pump 11 which has a pumping action path 22 having a width of the same level of a mean free path of the gas, and gives a temperature distribution to the pumping action path 22 causing a flow of gas molecules, wherein the gas mixture is introduced into the pump 11 and the pump 11 is activated so that a concentration of one of the component gases at at least one end part of the pump 11 is denser or more dilute than that of the other component gases in comparison to before activation of the pump.
