The invention relates to a burner (B) for a gas discharge lamp with a discharge vessel (1), which encloses a burner chamber (3), with electrodes (4), which reach into the burner chamber (3) and between which an arc is formed during operation. The discharge vessel (1) is made of glass, and an outer surface of the discharge vessel (1) supports a layer (5) made of indium tin oxide (ITO layer).
