A production method of a polysulfide compound by reacting a dihalogen compound having the following formula (I) and a metal polysulfide having the following formula (II): <?in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="lead"?>X-R-X (I) <?in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="tail"?> wherein X is a halogen and R is a C<SUB>2 </SUB>to C<SUB>24 </SUB>alkylene group, which may have a substituent or a hetero atom, or is an aromatic alkylene group; and <?in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="lead"?>M-Sx-M (II) <?in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="tail"?> wherein M is a metal of belonging to Group IA of the Periodic Table and x is an integer of an average 2 to 6 in an anhydrous solvent system.
