PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the detection rate of an object from being deteriorated even when the illuminance of an image pickup environment is changed. SOLUTION: In this object detecting device for detecting a specific object from an input image, a test image group 236 including an object to be detected in an image is corrected according to the detection illuminance of an illuminance detecting part 22 by a test vector correcting part 233, and set in an object detecting part 21 under the control of a detection rate adjusting part 23. Then, an object detection rate is calculated by changing object detection trial frequency and a detection threshold, and the object detection trial frequency and the detection threshold when the object detection rate is a specific detection rate or more are set in an object detecting part 21 as a final parameter under the control of a CPU 234.
