PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus capable of simultaneously satisfying high resolution that is the requirement of a monochromatic image and high gradation that is the requirement of a color image.

SOLUTION: A color discrimination circuit 2 discriminates whether received image data are color image data or monochromatic image data by each pixel of the received image data. When the received image data are the monochromatic image data, a resolution conversion circuit 3 divides pixels into a plurality of pixel divisions so as to thereby enhance the resolution of the monochromatic image. Whether the color image data or the monochromatic image data are discriminated by each pixel of the image data so as to enhance the resolution of the monochromatic image data, while high gradation (color reproducibility) is maintained for the color image, the resolution of the monochromatic image data can be improved in this way.
