<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reliably decide abnormality of air-fuel ratio sensor to detect the air-fuel ratio of an internal combustion engine. <P>SOLUTION: In a power output device, in case a demand power Pe* is lower than a reference power Pref (S120), an abnormality decision condition is materialized (S140) in advance of decision of abnormality of the air-fuel ration sensor, supply of fuel to an engine is stopped (S150), the car speed V exceeds a reference car speed Vref2 (S160), and a given time has not passed from starting of decision of the abnormality of the air-fuel ratio sensor (S170), the abnormality of the air-fuel ratio sensor is decided (S180) and the engine is controlled (S190, S300-S340) such that supply of fuel to the engine is stopped and the engine is rotated at a speed Nref1.
