A solid titanium catalyst component (I) characterized by comprising titanium, magnesium, a halogen, and a cyclic ester compound (a) specified by the following formula (1): (1) [wherein n is an integer of 5-10; R² and R³ each independently is COOR¹ or R, provided that at least either of R² and R³ is COOR¹; single bonds in the cyclic skeleton (the C^a-C^a bonds and the C^a-C^b bond in the case where R³ is R are excluded) each may be a double bond; R¹'s each independently is a C_1-20 monovalent hydrocarbon group; and R's each independently is hydrogen or a substituent, provided that at least one of the R's is not hydrogen]. Use of the solid titanium catalyst component (I) enables the production of an olefin polymer having a wide molecular-weight distribution.
