The process of the parent Specification is modified in that a water-containing stream of unreacted hydrocarbon is fed to the dehydration step wherein ortho-boric acid is dehydrated in two successive stages to give metaboric acid, the hydrocarbon is dried therein and a substantially dry stream of the hydrocarbon is separated therefrom.
