PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an actinic radiation-curable aqueous resin composition which pollutes the environment only little, has a high sensitivity to actinic radiation and gives a coated film strong enough for practical use for a short period of time. SOLUTION: The actinic radiation-curable aqueous resin composition comprises a polymer having, as internal salts, a photo-reactive onium group and a sulfonate group bonding to chromophores via bonding groups such as a benzyl onium group and/or a naphthyl methylene onium group. As the actinic radiation-curable aqueous resin composition contains an onium group cation and a sulfonate group anion, both hydrophilic, it is water-soluble or self-emulsifying and makes a stable aqueous solution or a stable aqueous dispersion. As the photo-reactive onium group cation and the sulfonate group anion form crosslinking structures and turn into hydrophobic groups upon irradiation with actinic radiation, the cured coated film has none or few of hydrophilic groups, which gives excellent coated films.
