PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a setting method capable of executing accurate setting without mistakes and an automatic meter reading system performing the setting method. SOLUTION: The automatic meter reading system comprises a radio slave unit 2 connected to a gas meter 1, a radio master unit 3, and an automatic meter reading unit 5 including a controller 4 connected to the radio master unit 3. The meter reading information from the gas meter 1 is received by radio communications by the radio slave unit 2 and radio master unit 3, and transmitted to a centralized monitoring center via the controller 4. The automatic meter reading unit 5 has an information gathering switch 44g. When a set value of a setting item for validating the function of each apparatus constituting the automatic meter reading system is set in each apparatus, the set value of the setting item that does not require change, of the setting items, is automatically set collectively to each apparatus by one operation of the information gathering switch 44g.
