The system has a feed-back loop providing a measured heating current value, in input of the system. The heating current is utilized for heating a heating filament (22) that heats a cathode (16) of a X-ray tube. A calculation unit calculates a value of heating current to be applied to the filament, from the measured heating current value, for adjusting the temperature of the filament. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling the temperature of a heating filament of a cathode of a X-ray tube.
