A back light unit enabling a design in which both the thermal expansion of optical sheets and the positioning accuracy thereof on a back light chassis are taken into account. In the back light chassis storing a lamp (7) which is disposed on the rear surface of a display panel (3) through the optical sheets (6), a positioning part for positioning the optical sheets (6) at a specified position on a loading surface (8e) is formed on the loading surface (8e) for placing the optical sheets (6) thereon at a position corresponding to the approximately long-side center of the optical sheets (6).
