<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-quality display device having high accuracy of a gap between a first substrate and a second substrate without using a particulate spacer. <P>SOLUTION: The display device includes a first substrate, thin film transistors fabricated in a matrix on the first substrate, a second substrate provided opposing to the first substrate, an alignment layer formed on the surface of the second substrate opposing to the first substrate, and a plurality of columnar spacers formed in contact with the alignment layer. The spacer satisfies 0.8≤L2/L1≤3, wherein L1 is the width of a center portion in the height direction of the columnar spacer and L2 is the width at the lower end in the second substrate side. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
