PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stepped through-column of a two-story wooden building. SOLUTION: In this through-column, a log is sawn up into a stepped column so that a first floor part is formed in thickness as much as 1.4 times the conventional one in the cross-sectional area, and a second floor part is formed in the conventional thickness. The first floor part is strongly constructed more than a conventional wooden building by using wide lumber having the same width as a column of the first floor in a sill, a beam, a girder and a stud of the first floor part. Damage of an earthquake can be reduced when constructing a wooden two-story building by this construction method. The durable life of the building is also lengthened. Even when a strong earthquake occurs, since the first floor part is strong, bending or breaking damage of the column of the first floor part is reduced. Since the through-column is sawn up from the same log as a conventional log, cost is not increased so much, and the durable life of the building is also lengthened. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
