PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically detect that a fixing roller 1 uses a curie point roller, having its Curie point in the vicinity of a fixing temperature, and to perform power control and temperature control in matching with the installed roller. SOLUTION: A fixing device, in which the fixing roller 1 is constituted of a material having the curie point in the vicinity of the fixing temperature, is provided with a power converter 31 for supplying a high-frequency magnetic field to the fixing roller 1 according to the heating state of the fixing roller 1, and a controller 32 for allowing the power converter 31 to execute power converting operation. The power converter 31 changes the applied power heating condition of the fixing roller 1 according to the instruction from the controller 32 and the kind of the fixing roller 1 is discriminated from the temperature heat generating state, based on the heating condition at that time.
