PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for recording data on an optical medium. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a recording control section which detects a data segment ID of each data segment recorded during recording operations and determines a data segment ID in a last data segment recorded on the optical medium when a recording operation is interrupted, when the recording operation is interrupted; and an optical medium reproducing/recording section which reproduces data from the optical medium, determines the data segment ID associated with the reproduced data, and records the data on the optical medium in response to the recording control section. Further, following on the interruption of the recording operation, in order to investigate the last data segment recorded on the optical medium with the data segment ID when the recording operation is interrupted, the device allows the reproduction/record section to reproduce the data from the optical medium, and to start recording the data segment on the optical medium at a last data segment position.
