PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase reflected wave reduction performance while maintaining overflow wave stopping performance. SOLUTION: This wave breaking structure comprises a body part 12 having, on its offshore side wall surface 18, an extension part 20 extended to an offshore and a wave dissipating/passing wall 14 forming a retarding chamber 30 in the clearance thereof from the offshore side wall surface 18 of the body part 12. The upper end part of the wave dissipating/passing wall 14 is formed to be separated from the extension part 20 and positioned under the offshore side end part 20b where it is not projected from the offshore side end part 20b of the extension part 20 to the offshore side. The upper end part of the wave dissipating/passing wall 14 is formed at a position lower than a sea level where overflow wave causes problems and higher than a sea level where the reflected wave causes problems.
