PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve miniaturization of an apparatus for processing information. SOLUTION: Before the start of recording data in a disk, a pickup is driven in the radial direction of the disk by visual field control (thread driving) and tracking control (biaxial driving) (steps S1 to S3). When the position of the pickup is moved to a position immediately before a recording start address, the execution of the visual field control is inhibited (steps S3 (YES), and S4). Then, when data recording is started (step S5 (YES)), the pickup is driven in the radial direction by the tracking control (step S6). Thus, as the simultaneous flowing of a recording current and a thread driving current is prevented, the compact battery of a small battery capacity is employed, and the apparatus itself is made compact.
