Disinfecting a material comprises spraying a disinfecting solution (A) on the material in the form of foam having an expansion coefficient higher than 40, and eliminating the foam present on the material by atomization of a resorption solution and/or by spraying a gaseous stream. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a device (B) for carrying out the process, comprises a first tank comprising (A), a second tank comprising the resorption solution, and the means for setting the liquid under pressure, comprises an optimal mixing of (A), gas and thus the formation of foam/optimal mixing of the resorption solution, gas and thus the formation of fog, and means of manual spraying such as a lance; (2) (A) comprises (wt.%), chlorhexidine digluconate (0.5-5), isopropanol (1-5), cetyltrimethylammonium chloride and/or benzalkonium chloride (1-10), myristyl dimethylamine oxide and/or mixture of myristyl dimethylamine oxide and copra fatty acid diethanolamide (1-10) and a weak base (1-5) to buffer the pH; and (3) the foam resorption solution comprises (wt.%), isopropyl alcohol (1-10) and solution of non-ionic surface active agents (0.5-1), silicone and hydrocarbons.
