PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oil lock mechanism capable of generating damping force dependent upon piston speed when a hydraulic shock absorber is fully extended without requiring high processing accuracy in the fitting diameter and the concentricity of an oil lock case with an oil lock piece in the hydraulic shock absorber. SOLUTION: In this hydraulic shock absorber 10, the oil lock piece 62 in slidable contact with the outer periphery of the oil lock case 61 and the inner periphery of a cylinder 11 is slidably installed between the oil lock case 61 and the cylinder 11. An oil lock hydraulic chamber 63 is formed of the cylinder 11, the oil lock case 61, and the oil lock piece 62. An orifice passage 67 is formed to communicate the oil lock oil chamber 63 with an oil chamber on the inside of the oil lock case 61, and a locking member 68 is installed to prevent the oil lock piece 62 from being extracted from the oil lock case 61.
