A remote control key for a vehicle capable of preventing the erroneous operation of a keyless engine start system. The remote control key (100) communicates with a vehicle side in the authentication area of the vehicle and transmits identification information to release the lock of an engine start switch (10) on the vehicle side so that an engine can be started. A push button (22) disables (in a stopped state) or activates (in a signal receive standby state) the function of communication with the vehicle. Indication lamps (23) and (24) display that switching operation is performed by the push button (22) or display the present state of the communication function. The push button (22) makes display the state of the communication function in response to short time operation and makes switch the present state to the other state in response to a long time operation, namely, a long time pressing. |
