PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an edge detecting method capable of edge detection efficiently in a short time. SOLUTION: The edge discrimination method for discriminating an edge of an image is provided with: a step for constructing a first polygon by connecting a plurality of pixel positions nearby a notable position is paid to so as to include the notable position is paid to; a step for creating at least two kinds of paths or more consisting of one side of the first polygon or combinations of two or more adjacent sides; a step for deciding the number of times a pixel value changes on the basis of pixel arrangement along the respective paths of two kinds or more; and a step for deciding whether or not there is an edge nearby the notable position on the basis of the combination of the discrimination results in the respective paths.
