PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method (1) for braking the weft (2) of a loom (3), especially a jet loom (3). SOLUTION: This method for braking the weft (2) of the loom (3), comprising bringing a braking element (4) into contact with the weft (2) and operating the braking element (4) with a driving device (6) through a controller (5), is characterized by determining the first measurement value (8) of the operation parameter (9) of the weft (2) during the insertion (7) of the weft, estimating the first measurement value (10) of the operation parameter (9) on the basis of the first measurement value (8), determining a correction value (11) therefrom, and then correcting the operation parameter (9) of the weft (2) on the basis of the correction value (11).
