PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a passenger conveyor allowing a passenger to visually confirm direction of advance of steps easily. SOLUTION: This passenger conveyor is provided with a plurality of steps 3 circulating and moving in an endless manner. This step 3 has an opening 33 in a riser part 32. This passenger conveyor is provided with a lighting system 5 for illuminating light going toward a surface of the step 3 through the opening 33 of the step 3 and an illumination driving means for driving a light source 51 of the lighting system selectively in either of a condition in which the light source 51 is continuously lit and a condition in which it is discontinuously lit. Light is emitted from the surface of the step 3 through the opening 33 to allow a passenger to visually confirm the direction of advance of the steps 3 easily. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
