The system has adjustment devices (19, 20) using which the electrical voltage from a fuel cell unit and a traction battery are adjustable to a voltage for operation of a motor. The adjustment devices are connected with the unit and battery by decoupling diodes. Bridging mechanisms with thyristors bridge the unit and the battery so that the unit and the battery are connected directly with a traction inverter. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a method for operation of a fuel cell system (B) a vehicle comprising an electrochemical unit.
