A birefringence optical film, comprising one or more birefringent (A) layers having the characteristic of nya>= nza > nxa or nza > nya > nza and one or more birefringent (B) layers having the characteristic of nxb >= nyb > nzb. By the optical film, the excellent contrast, wide angle of view, and prevention of coloring of a liquid crystal display device can be realized.
