Data is transmitted from a portable handheld device ("HHD") (14, 15) at a remote site to a control facility using wireless data transmission. In response, the control facility creates and sends a measurement instruction or command to the HHD (14, 15). The command sent to the HHD (14, 15) can be based at least in part on the data previously received from the HHD (14, 15).
