摘要 1215438 Super-conductors BROWN BOVERI & CO Ltd 3 April 1969 [5 April 1968] 17698/69 Headings H1A A5 and A4D A stabilized super-conductor is produced by sealing a plurality of rods of super-conductor material in a plurality of bores formed in each of a plurality of blocks of stabilizing metal, reducing and shaping the cross-section of each block to form wires having longitudinally extending grooves and ribs, joining the wires together side-by-side by engagement between the grooves and the ribs to form a strip and reducing the cross-sectional area of the composite structure. The wires are produced by inserting an ingot of Nb 42 wt. per cent Ti in a Cu or Al sheath, electron beam welding two covers to the sheath, and hot pressing and drawing. The resultant rod is cut into appropriate lengths and the Cu sheath removed, e.g. by cutting, the resulting superconductor wires being inserted into bores in a Cu block to which covers are welded. The block is then hot pressed to a rectangular cross-section and then reduced and shaped by multiple cold drawing. In a first arrangement, Fig. 4a, the wires 12 are provided with opposed longitudinal ribs having concave outer faces while the wires 13 are provided with opposed dovetail grooves. Wires of alternate types are assembled together and provided with Cu edge wires 14, 15 to form a strip which is drawn through a die having a rectangular aperture to deform the ribs so that they interlock with the grooves, Fig. 5 (not shown). In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 4b, the wires 17 have dovetail ribs and the wires 18 have rectangular grooves defined between wedge shaped shoulders. After assembling, the strip is rolled to deform the shoulders so that they interlock with the dovetail ribs.
