The vehicle steering column (1) is designed to allow relative longitudinal motion of outer (3) and inner (2) polygonal tubes while preventing relative rotation. The outer tube has three faces which are convex on the outside and concave on the inside, separated by three more sharply curved regions. The inner tube has three sharply curved regions separating regions which are concave on the outside. Barrel-shaped rollers (4) fit between the faces of the polygonal tubes.
