A control and indicator unit, e.g. for equipment, has illuminators (14) fitted onto the inside of a diffusing panel (10) and with a reflector (16) to concentrate the light onto the diffusing panel. A transparent panel (12) is fitted to the outside of the diffusing panel and is provided with printed or applied symbols, e.g. symbols and alpha numeric characters. The transparent panel can be glass or plastic. The reflector has a curved upper section and a plane lower section (18).
