PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus for making the replacement cycle of an ink cartridge into an appropriate state by properly changing the number of the ink cartridges to be stored in accordance with the application. SOLUTION: In an inkjet printer 1, an ink cartridge mounting section 2 having a plurality of individual cartridge mounting stages 4a to 4f which are changeably mounted with each ink cartridge 5K to 5C, is provided with the individual cartridge mounting stages 4a to 4f more than the numbers of ink color. The individual cartridge mounting stages 4a to 4f are selectively connected to each ink pipe 6K to 6C, by mounting the ink cartridges 5K to 5C covering all ink colors while recognizing the colors of ink stored in the ink cartridges 5K to 5C. Accordingly, the ink cartridges 5K to 5C of each color can be properly mounted on the individual cartridge mounting stages 4a to 4f in accordance with the application to improve availability.
