PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct the writing position by correcting a part of a plurality of beams, calculating a correction value for other beams on the engine side from positional relation between a drum and the beam, and then correcting magnification of main scanning by utilizing a PLL. SOLUTION: A multibeam image forming apparatus for scanning a plurality of lines with a plurality of lasers arranged in array comprises a means for adjusting a part of a plurality of beams, a means for calculating correction data in the main scanning direction based on the adjustment data obtained from the adjusting means and the irradiating position of each beam on a photosensitive body, a means for correcting the scanning length of other beam based on the correction data, and a synchronous position detecting means for introducing a part of a plurality of laser beams to a synchronism detection element through a synchronism detection lens and controlling the timing of scanning start position using a signal from the synchronism detection element.
