PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection-type display apparatus capable of realizing displaying, having both of high gradation and high luminance, and to provide a color wheel used for the display device. SOLUTION: The color wheel 1 consists of a disk-like color filter divided into a plurality of RGB color regions and disk-like color filter is constituted of seven segment regions, consisting of a color filter R1, a color filter R2, a color filter G1, a color filter G2, a color filter B1, a color filter B2, and a low-density color filter G3. When the sum of the center angles of the color filters G1, B1, G3 and the sum of center angles of the color filters R2, G2, B2 are respectively set to 180°, the boundary between the color filters R1, B2 and the boundary between the color filters R2, B1 become aligned as a line, and the switching of the lighting frequency of a lamp and the start of an one-frame period can be performed on both the boundaries.
