PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique which can accurately machine a plurality of grooves on a plate shape workpiece. SOLUTION: A groove forming apparatus 10 for forming a plurality of grooves on the plate shape workpiece 27 comprises a forming die 12 having a first die 14 and a second die 15, which can be opened and closed, and a moving means 16 for relatively moving the forming die 12 and the workpiece 27 in the longitudinal direction of the grooves. The first die 14 has a plurality of recessed portions 20 corresponding to a plurality of the grooves so as to be arranged in a row, and has cut-out portions on a sidewall on the back side of the moving direction to allow the respective recessed portions 20 to communicate with the outside of the die. The second die 15 has a plurality of projected portions 24 corresponding to a plurality of the recessed portions 20 so as to be arranged in a row in the direction of the depth of the recessed portions 20. A plurality of the grooves can be formed by closing the first die 14 and the second die 15 in the state that the plate shape workpiece 27 is located between the first die 14 and the second die 15, and then by relatively moving the forming die 12 and the workpiece 27 in the longitudinal direction of the grooves by means of the moving means 16.
