PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a conventional apparatus for measuring water quality has a large buoyant force because of its spherical float in particular, and therefore there is a merit of promising self-cleaning by using water flows hitting a water-quality sensor, but the water-quality sensor is restricted to a water-quality measurement just beneath a water surface, and the water-quality measurement can not be carried out at a position deeper than the position just beneath the water surface. SOLUTION: An apparatus for measuring the water quality is provided, which has a float 3 surfacing on the water surface of a liquid to be measured 1 and a water-quality sensor 4 being disposed at a lower section of the float in order to detect the water quality of the liquid to be measured. In the measuring instrument for the water quality, the float is made up in a vertically long form, and the water-quality sensor is disposed at the lower side of the float. Therefore, the position of the water-quality sensor is located from the water surface more deeply in comparison with the spherical float, whereby the measurement can be carried out at the deeper position.
