PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sound insulation method and a sound insulation device exercising superior vibration damping performance by using a principle completely different from a mass side and viscoelasticity. SOLUTION: The sound insulation method is characterized by that a material including at least one of a conductive layer, a piezoelectric layer, and a ferromagnetic layer which may receive a sound wave and vibrate and should be subjected to sound insulation is arranged in a propagation path of the sound wave in a state wherein the layer is placed in an artificial magnetic field having a component in parallel with the layer. The sound insulation device is characterized by that it includes the material including at least one of the conductive layer, the piezoelectric layer, and the ferromagnetic layer which may receive the sound wave and vibrate, and a means for generating the magnetic field having the component in parallel with the layer.
