<p>The invention relates to improvements to self-floating arms for the collection of oil spills. The improvements lie in the fact that the arms (1-1') of the device are self-floating and are physically independent of the hull (2) of the vessel, to which they are connected solely by means of respective cables (3-3'). The ends of each of the cables are fixed to the corresponding arm relatively close to the end thereof, while the central part (4) of each cable is removably fixed to the hull (2) of the vessel, e.g. with the aid of a cathead. In this way, it is possible to lengthen one of the segments of the cable while shortening the other and vice versa, such that, in the deployed position, the arms project outwards with a slight inclination to the front and, in the non-deployed position, the arms are retracted alongside the hull and positioned essentially parallel to the axis of the latter.</p> |
