The invention relates to a plate comprising an inscription area and a border area that lies outside the inscription area, said plate being used for the production of an electroluminescent number plate. The plate is characterised by (a) a blank and (b) a film that is provided with an electroluminescent coating, said film extending at least partially over the inscription area and the border area. The film comprises metallic printed conductors, which are electrically insulated against the plate.
