<p>An article having a decorative visual surface appearance provided by a plast ics composition which comprises a transparent or translucent plastics material having a colourant dispersed therein is charac terised in that the colourant comprises a blend of discr ete polymer particles substantially all of which have a minimum dimension in the range 5 to 100 micron and a maximum dimension of no more than 1 0 mm, said particles being of a natural or synthetic organic polymer or a glas s, the blend comprising particles of at least two distin ct colours and/or shapes, and the plastics composition containing 0.1 to 8 percent by w eight of the blend of polymer particles based on the wei ght of the plastics composition. The article can be made by a method which inclu des the steps of mixing together the blend and the plast ics material or a precursor thereof and forming the article under condition wher eby the polymer particles in the colourant are not defor med to any substantial extent. The coloured particles may be provided in a colour c oncentrate homogeneously mixed with a polymer or precurs or thereof or a wax. The articles may be moulded, cast, extruded, calendered or reinforced plastics articles, for example floor coverin gs.</p> |
