PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the following problem: when authenticating a user by use of a password and a user identifier, secrecy of the password has to be held, and erroneous input of the password can be performed because the password is displayed by a substitutional character instead of display of an actually inputted character as the password. SOLUTION: In this password input device, a display character is calculated on the basis of the password inputted by a user, and the display character is presented to the user. That is, the user can decide whether an inputted character string is correct or not by confirming the display characters, and another person cannot estimate the inputted character string from the display characters even if the other person sees the display characters.
