They are prepared by treating an enantiomer of a compound of Formula II with a radical-forming catalyst, e.g. a peroxide at -30‹ to + 250‹ C. in the presence of as cocatalyst a compound containing one or more non-aromatic C-C multiple bonds but no functional group capable of reacting with isocyanate groups, e.g. an alkene, alkadiene, alkyne, halogen alkene or vinyl ester or ether. N - Bromo - 4 - methyl (or 4,4 - dimethyl)- azetidinone - (2) is prepared from' 4 - methyl- (or 4,4 - dimethyl) - azetidinone - (2) and bromine. N - Bromo 4 - vinyl - azetidinone - (2) is prepared from N-bromosuccinimide and 4-vinylazetidinone-(2). N - Bromo - 4 - carbo - methoxy - azetidinone-(2) is prepared from 4-carbomethoxyazetidinone - (2) and bromine. |
