<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To read image, without being affected by a surface state of an image recording medium. <P>SOLUTION: A scanner part 232 for a printing accepting machine 230 is provided with a gloss detection sensor 250, and the gloss detection sensor outputs a signal, according to the surface state of a photographic print, and a determination part 258 of an image processing part 120A determines the surface state of the photographic print from the output of the gloss detection sensor. The image processing part changes over the processing coefficients in a preprocessing filter 252 and a sharpness processing part 256, on the basis of the determination result of the determination part by a coefficient changeover part 260 and performs prescribed image processing of image data obtained, by reading the photographic print by means of a CCD line sensor 114.
