PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk in which a medium can be recognized at high speed by a recording and reproducing apparatus of a different generation even when it is a medium of a different generation by unifying format structure recorded in a control zone. SOLUTION: The optical disk is provided with a user data zone which is a region in which clock information is previously fixed-recorded at fixed interval and which can record and reproduce user information, and a control zone in which control information specifying a medium is recorded, and has track structure formed in helical form or concentric circular form, wherein one track in the control zone is constituted of one physical address segment region and a plurality of control unit regions, each control unit region is a region in which no clock information is included and control information and synchronism information for reproducing the control information are previously fixed-recorded.
