<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus, capable of increasing the image forming speed by forming images on the front and back of transfer paper with separate photoreceptors and also capable of restraining image displacement with respect to the front and back of the transfer paper in the direction of the passage of the transfer paper. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a print main control section 400 that determines the reference timing for a series of image forming operations, based on an image formation command given by an operator, and transmits a signal, for the reference timing or a writing instruction signal determined by this, to a first writing control circuit 404. The first writing control circuit 404 is constituted so as to start own writing process, based on the signal for the reference timing or the writing instruction signal and transmits a timing signal for the start of the writing process to a second writing control circuit 405.
