PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester produced by using an antimony catalyst, and giving a suitable container as a beverage container formed by expansion blow molding of a preform and for heat-sterilizing and filling. SOLUTION: The polyester comprises (1) ethylene terephthalate units as the main ingredient, and has (2) 0.6-0.9 dl/g intrinsic viscosity, (3) 0.8-2.0 mmol/kg antimony content, (4)≥160°C temperature-rising crystallization peak temperature and≤170°C or no temperature-dropping crystallization peak temperature and (5)≤1×10<SP>-2</SP>/μm<SP>2</SP>number of spherulites when heated from room temperature to 120°C and≤1×10<SP>-3</SP>/μm<SP>2</SP>number of spherulites when cooled from 300°C to 200°C.
