PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical scanner that enables a high quality image to be acquired, and also to obtain an image forming apparatus using the same. SOLUTION: The optical scanner is equipped with a first optical system that uses a luminous flux emitted from a light source means 1 as an incident luminous flux to guide to a deflecting means 5 and with a second optical system that uses the luminous flux deflected by the deflecting means as a scanning luminous flux to guide onto a surface 8 to be scanned, wherein the incident luminous flux passes through at least a part of the scanning optical system 6 constituting the second optical system and enters obliquely relative to the deflecting face in a sub-scanning cross section. Main light beams of the incident luminous flux and the scanning luminous each pass through the same side relative to the optical axis of the scanning optical system 6. At least either the incident face or the exit face in the sub-scanning cross section of the scanning optical system 6, is shaped projectingly toward the deflecting means. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
