The invention relates to a wireless microphone system. Such a microphone system (also called a microphone pocket transmitter below), comprises a microphone with integrated transmitter and a microphone receiver for said transmitter, by means of which the electric signals generated by the microphone transducer are transmitted to the receiver. It is also possible to digitise the electrical signal in the microphone itself, transmit the same over a high-frequency channel to the microphone receiver and to reconvert the same back to an analogue signal therein. The aim of the invention is to provide at least one measure for prevention of an illegal eavesdropping or at least which renders the same extremely difficult such as not to be possible with simple means to create unauthorized recordings. Said microphone system, comprising a wireless microphone or a cable microphone with a microphone transducer and a receiver provided for said wireless microphone whereby the wireless microphone comprises a transmitter unit by means of which the electrical signals generated by the microphone transducer are transmitted to the receiver, preferably by means of a high frequency channel characterised in that an encoding device is provided in the microphone and a decoding device is embodied in the receiver or in a device after the receiver for processing the microphone signal.
