An electrooptic device includes a first substrate (10) on which are formed pixel electrodes (9a), first thin film transistors (30) electrically connected to the pixel electrodes (9a), and scanning lines (3a) and data lines (6a) electrically connected to the first thin film transistors (30). A second substrate (20) opposing the first substrate(10) and has a common electrode (21) formed thereon and an electrooptic substance (50) is held between the first substrate (10) and the second substrate (20). Also provided are switching elements (801,802) for discharging in capacitors constituted by the pixel electrodes (9a) on the first substrate (10), the electrooptic substance (50), and the common electrode (21) on the second substrate (20). When the switching elements for discharging are closed, the potentials of the data lines and the common potential line are dropped to a ground potential, this makes it possible to remove charges inside the electrooptic device. <IMAGE> |
