PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light detection method and its device capable of detecting feeble light with less photons at high speed. SOLUTION: In the state that a direct current bias voltage is applied to a semiconductor photonic device having a pn junction or p-i-n junction, a periodic pulse voltage is further applied and in order to detect incident light in a time frame during which the pulse voltage is applied, the signal waveform immediately after the pulse voltage becomes extinct is observed.
